About Baseline Scientific
Baseline
Scientific aims to bring you astronomy and science in a mature and intelligent
fashion. We do not believe that shaky out-of-focus camera shots, or loud music,
or ‘dumbed-down’ scripts is the best way to produce programmes. All of us
here, are keen amateur astronomers, with either an engineering or scientific
background. We know what makes science interesting, and we want to share that
with you.
It all started
as an idea during 2007. The founder, Paul Scanlon, had become increasingly
frustrated with the way television produced it’s scientific programmes. All to
often, they seemed to be made by people who knew little about the real
excitement of science. Instead, they thought they needed distracting filming
techniques, which just resulted in a ‘dumbed-down’ programme.
Our first
webcast was in May 2008. Simply called, The Night Sky, it immediately attracted a
regular following, which has increased month by month. It currently has viewing
figures of over 1700 per month. Focusing on what can be observed easily with the
naked eye, or small telescopes, it looks at the moon, the planets and other
astronomical events, such as eclipses and meteor showers. Our regular viewers
are now spread across many countries, including America, India and South Africa.
Kala Sesuraj
joined the presenting team over the summer. She has brought her scientific
knowledge and her interest in the planets to present the main part of the
program.
In the future we hope to bring you special one-off programmes that represent astronomy and science in a mature way. We are also responding to suggestions, and will be producing more writen content as well.
But, we will always remain focused on our motto - more signal; less noise!
